THE NARRATIVE AND POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

Threats to freedom of speech, writing and action, though often trivial in isolation, are cumulative in their effect and, unless checked, lead to a general disrespect for the rights of the citizen. -George Orwell

THE 1916 EASTER RISING...AS GAEILGE, PARTS 9-10

  1. As we've seen, the men of the Easter Rising were well-educated and lived the words of Thomas Davis, "Educate and you may be free." They not only believed in freedom and independence for Ireland but recognized the vital importance of teaching and fighting for the language and maintaining the Irish culture. This belief was encapsulated in the writings of Patrick Pearse - "Not just an Irish Ireland but a free Ireland...not just a free Ireland but an Irish Ireland." While it was clear that the country was divided by the Rising, and still is, much of Ireland owes their independence from Britain today to the men who sacrificed their lives for the country.
Very good, interesting, educational and riveting documentary. Thank you so much for posting as well as so many other pieces of Irish history and culture! They are all truly enjoyed.
