THE NARRATIVE AND POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

Threats to freedom of speech, writing and action, though often trivial in isolation, are cumulative in their effect and, unless checked, lead to a general disrespect for the rights of the citizen. -George Orwell

CELTIC FOOTBALL CLUB - THE IRISH CONNECTION

THREE MARTINI LUNCH: MARCH 31, 2014

Jim and Greg have fun with healthcare.gov being down on the last day of enrollment, react to Chuck Todd saying ObamaCare is "unrepealable," and ponder Senator Angus King saying there is no such thing as ObamaCare.

Deadline Is ObamaCare's "Mission Accomplished" Moment
It was, perhaps, fitting that the same website that debuted to the scorn of the nation last fall would crash on the last day of the six-month period for enrollment in ObamaCare. Just as the administration and its media cheerleaders were declaring victory in their effort to reach the goal of seven million enrolled in the scheme, the HealthCare.gov website was down for six hours this morning due to what we are told was a software bug that caused a crash rather than a surge in traffic. Though the site was supposedly back up and running, the event was an appropriate metaphor for a flawed law's implementation. Having overpromised throughout this process, the government couldn't even keep its website up during the last day of its self-imposed deadline.
Yet the real problem with the White House's triumphant spin on the enrollment figures isn't that "glitchy" website. It's the fact that the numbers that are being cited as proof that, despite all its travails, more than six and perhaps even seven million people have signed up for ObamaCare are thoroughly unreliable. You don't have to be a conspiracy theorist to know that the books are being cooked. With as many as 20 percent of those being counted as enrolled yet to pay a premium and thus not actually covered, the talk about success is mere hot air.

Support for ObamaCare dips to 26%
A new survey by the Associated Press-GfK survey finds that only 26 percent of Americans support the so-called Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare. In April 2010, shortly after the law passed, 39 percent supported it.
The most significant change since that time has been in the number of Americans who neither support nor oppose the law. That percentage has shot from 10 percent to 30 percent since April 2010. The percentage of those opposed to Obamacare has dropped from 50 percent to 43 percent.
I imagine that the large number of "fence sitters" gives Democrats hope that campaigning in favor of "fixing" Obamacare will be a viable political strategy this year. But I'm far from convinced that it will be viable for Democrats who voted to pass legislation on such a vital subject that is opposed by 50 percent more people than support it, and that is viewed skeptically by so many others.

Geraldo: It's 'Provable' That Media Avoid Identifying Party of Corrupt Democrats
Fox News Channel host Geraldo Rivera was asked by the hosts of Fox & Friends on Friday for his take on a variety of criminal allegations against state-level Democratic politicians and how the political press was covering those scandals. Rivera said it was "provable" that the media generally fails to mention party affiliations when the politician implicated in a scandal is a Democrat and that Fox is the "antidote" to this condition.
"There is no doubt, it is undeniable, that the mainstream media is more liberal than anything else," Rivera asserted. "There is an instinct among the liberal, probably mostly Democratic, mainstream media to portray republicans as hypocrites and–"
"–Evildoers," Fox host Steve Doocy interjected.
Rivera said that the media has a tendency to avoid labeling Democrats involved in scandals with their party affiliation. "There is no doubt about that," Rivera continued. "No one can realistically deny it. It is provable."
"Rather than try to talk around it, cop to it," he continued.
"Usually, the politicians who are robbing on the democratic side tend to be ethnic politicians, as in these cases," he continued. Rivera added that this provides the press with a "politically correct" reason to avoid labeling the alleged offenders with the Democratic Party label. "We are the antidote to that particular problem," he concluded.

Derp: State Dept. Warns Against Ukraine Travel, Promotes Ukraine Travel
Just three days after the State Department issued a travel warning for Ukraine, it began promoting a campaign urging Americans to visit the country, prompting confusion and concern from some foreign policy observers.
The State Department issued a Ukraine travel warning on March 21 warning "U.S. citizens to defer all non-essential travel to Ukraine and to defer all travel to the Crimean Peninsula and eastern regions of Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Lugansk due to the presence of Russian military forces in the Crimean Peninsula, and in Russia near the Ukrainian border."
Three days after that warning was issued the State Department's official Twitter feed disseminated an official video promoting travel to Ukraine and arguing that all is safe for tourists.

Nuke Manhattan? Babbling Obama fumbles through embarrassing question with no teleprompter
ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl may have accomplished the impossible Tuesday, posing such a hard hitting question that he left President Obama momentarily without words.
At a joint press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Obama was asked if his influence on world affairs is on a decline and if Mitt Romney was right about Russia being America's greatest geopolitical foe.
"In China, in Syria, in Egypt, and now in Russia we've seen you make strong statements, issue warnings that have been ignored," Karl began. "Are you concerned that America's influence in the world - that your influence in the world - is on the decline?
Without his teleprompter, a tired looking Obama appeared to be outmatched by the question. After struggling to find any words at all, he did what politicians do best; avoid the question.
"I think if the premise of the question is that whenever the United States objects to an action and other countries don't immediately do what we want, that that's been the norm, that would pretty much erase most of twentieth century history," Obama eventually replied.
Deflecting the focus away from himself, he said, "The world's always been messy."
