THE NARRATIVE AND POLITICAL CORRECTNESS

Threats to freedom of speech, writing and action, though often trivial in isolation, are cumulative in their effect and, unless checked, lead to a general disrespect for the rights of the citizen. -George Orwell

RUBIO'S PLAN FOR DEALING WITH NORTH KOREA

How Marco Will Stand Up to North Korea
Marco has been warning throughout the presidential campaign that North Korea is a rogue state run by a lunatic with a growing number of nuclear weapons. The Kim regime's January 2016 nuclear test was just the latest reminder of its aggressive, dangerous ambitions. Meanwhile, its government ranks as possibly the world's worst human rights abuser - jailing, torturing, and killing its people with abandon.
President Obama and Hillary Clinton have stood idly by while Kim Jong-un has tortured his people and threatened his neighbors and the United States. When they have engaged on North Korea, they have only offered concession after concession in the hopes of cutting an Iran-style deal that would only empower the regime. Years of this behavior has allowed North Korea to test multiple nuclear weapons and build ballistic-missile technology capable of hitting the United States. Moreover, North Korea is more of a force for instability in the region, a crucial one with a number of close U.S. allies, than ever before.
This failure must be replaced with a policy of strength and clarity: Stop the giveaways, ratchet up the pressure on North Korea's leaders and their Chinese supporters, back up our allies in the region, restore critical funding to our missile defense programs, and promote human rights and access to outside information within North Korea.

THE FEDERALIST RADIO HOUR: DECEMBER 11, 2015

Garry Kasparov is a Russian chess Grandmaster and often called the greatest chess player of all time. He is also the author of Winter is Coming: Why Vladimir Putin and the Enemies of the Free World Must Be Stopped. On the Federalist Radio Hour, Kasparov shared stories from his 78-year-old mother who grew up under Stalin and discussed what the U.S. could have done differently in their relationship with Russia after the Cold War.

Kasparov said that a dictator who runs out of enemies in his own country, will eventually begin looking for enemies elsewhere. "Eventually [Putin] would be the problem for everybody," he said. "At certain points he will have no other arguments to stay in power and to justify his eternal rule, as to create more conflicts and war."

India, Japan Leaders Meet to Counter Rise of China
India's prime minister Narendra Modi met with Japan's prime minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on Monday, supposedly to improve economic ties, but it was clear that the threats posed by China were high on the agenda. Their joint statement said, "The two prime ministers reaffirmed the importance of defense relations between Japan and India in their strategic partnership and decided to upgrade and strengthen them."
Abe and Modi agreed to hold regular joint naval exercises with the United States and to increase Japanese military exports to India. This agreement was particularly significant in view of Abe's recent reinterpretation of Japan's pacifist constitution, which permits military action only for Japan's self-defense. Abe has reinterpreted this to mean "collective self-defense." I discussed this issue in detail recently in "5-May-14 World View -- Japan debates 'collective self-defense' to protect America and Japan."
This reinterpretation of the constitution will permit the armed forces to use the military to defend allies, such as the United States or India, even if the ally is being attack but Japan is not. It will also permit Japan to rescue Japanese civilians in remote locations.
