Quite interesting to learn that the politics that divide Ireland are also an integral part of the GAA. I suppose this should have been apparent due to the various teams consisting of amateurs and being County oriented. Immigration, particularly among the youth learning and getting to play the games appears to be softening the hard political edge. Reference is also made to professionalism being inevitable at some point in the future which could also dull the political swords. In America, our professional teams are celebrated across party lines by fans of a particular team without regard to any other fan of the same teams political persuasion. However, America's sports media is increasingly veering away from the athletic event itself and letting political correctness and partisan social issues creep into their commentary.
